April 30th Palette

Planted April 27th 06

Today I planted: Calendula-mix, Portulaca-mix, Pansy-deep gold, Stock-vintage mix, Marigold-perfection yellow. I also laid out the soaker hose.

Shades of plum and purple

Two of the primroses recently planted have the most beautiful colored flowers. One has dark plum colored flowers, changing to the deepest shade of burgundy as the flowers mature, the other plant has flowers the darkest purple with a yellow center.

The lilac is almost in bloom.

What's growing April 25

These two ferns were planted last fall and are showing signs of liking this spot in the garden.

The oriental lillys were moved from a more shady area to here where they will get more sun. The gladioli are coming up along the fence. Notice the chicken wire inside the lattice fence, the baby rabbits could get through the lattice, I will not have those cuties eating my plants.

Another one of my favorite hostas.

Fern 8am then again 8:15pm

I took this photo around 8am this morning. The fronds were about 11/2 inches high.

I was not entirely happy with the morning photos, so decided to retake them this evening. I was astounded by the growth of this fern in just one day.

Just a Few More!! April 17th

On my way home from work this afternoon, as I passed by the garden center, my car just turned into the garden center all by it'self. Didn't think you would believe that story.

I planted one rose begonia in the blue pot to keep the cyclamen, hosta, and ferns company.

Previously I had mentioned that I had room in this pot for a couple of more plants, so in went a rose begonia.

Two begonias will help fill in the gaps in this pot.

Swiss Chard

Yesterday April 9th, I planted four Swiss Chard (Bright Lights) plants in my flower garden. Yes, I know they are vegetables, but they are colorful and I think they will be a rather attractive addition to my garden spot. Of course I will eat the Chard.

See how colorful the stems of the chard are.

Last year at the annual plant sale, I bought this un-named plant which also has interesting leaves. I can't help but think it is also in the chard family. Does anyone recognize it?

There Are Always Surprises

I braved the cold to go outside and see what is new in the garden. I am surprised to see these have come up so soon, I thought the weather had been too cold.

Hail April 14th 2006

It hailed quite heavily this afternoon. I was worried that the plants may have been damaged.

The Sedums have survived.

The pot of more delicte plants in the background are OK too.

At this point I have caught up recording all I have planted so far. Now I can get down to the business of recording the growth of the plants.

The plant with the blue flowers is a Cineraria. The other two pots hold newly repotted geraniums I had stored in the garage over winter.

Gee! another primrose.

This is a better picture of the pale pink primrose in the Hosta garden.

An Oriental Lily well on it's way to being full grown.

This year I am experimenting with growing some Gladioli in pots as well as in the garden.
