Kia hora te manno
Kia whakapapa paumamu te moana
Kia tere te Karohirohi

May the calm be widespread
May the sea glisten like the greenstone
And may the glimmer of summer dance across your pathways

Anemones bring memories

It is interesting that I find I am growing many of the same kind of flowers my mother did. I don't think it has anything to do with "Mum did, so I will" It is simply because I learned to love the same flowers as a child, when I would help her in the garden, and of course now, seeing them bloom, brings back many fond memories of the times we spent together.

If you click on the picture, you can see a little ant on the flower on the left.

Their colors are so striking with some of the flowers having dark centers ringed in a paler shade, usually white, and petals which look as though they are made from velvet. You just want to reach out and stroke the petals to see if they feel as soft as they look. These anemones have been growing in the same spot for three years now, and seem to be quite happy.

Anemones are fabulous, aren't they? I liked your comment about finding you plant many of the same flowers that your Mum did. I skipped a generation: I plant many of the things that HER Mum did, and MY mother actually learned to try some new flowers because of me. It's neat to see the love of gardening shared through families.

Wow, gorgeous flowers! I find that I do plant some of the same flowers my mother and grandmother planted. I plant roses and marigolds. :-) They bring back fond memories for me.

Beautiful Anemones, I think a lot of us seem to like the same flowers as our mother's or grandmother's do. After all who is it that inspires us to garden most of the time?

I feel the way you do about flowers I grew up with as they bring back memories and I can picture them in the garden at home in my parents house. The anenomes are beautiful a striking range of colours too.

Really beautiful! There are so many things in the garden that remind me of my grandmother... especially petunias (which are so common, but she loved them and when I look at one I still think of her!). --Jackie

These Anemone coronaria are so beautiful. They almost seem surreal. Are any of you like me and have to pause briefly before saying "A-NEM-o-Ne" rather than "A-NEN-o-ME?"

My mom grew irises, and I have lots of those, but also way more than that. I let violets grow here and there, mostly in my veggie garden, because I remember them growing in the grass in my maternal grandmother's back yard path. I don't know about my childhood judgment for flowers, though. I thought the bindwood flowers growing on a fence were pretty.
