CORRECTION, I had this little guy identified as a hairy woodpecker, thank you Randy for pointing out that it is actually a downy woodpecker. You can tell the difference between the two, by the downy having a shorter beak and the downy nostril feathering which filters out the sawdust produced in hammering.
Kia hora te manno
Kia whakapapa paumamu te moana
Kia tere te Karohirohi
May the calm be widespread
May the sea glisten like the greenstone
And may the glimmer of summer dance across your pathways

Very pretty, I like the little red cap on their head
I never seem to get close enough to see the differences in the wood peckers in my neighbor's tree. Nice photos.
Jennifer,
I think this might be a Downy Woodpecker, the smaller bill leads me to this. Also very rarely Hairy's visit feeders, downys love feeders. Nice photos!
oh he's gorgeous. Great photos :)
Well it's gorgeous, whatever type of Woodpecker it is. Wonderful photos. It's great to see birdlife from all over the world up close.
I love the little woodpeckers. Great shots of the downy woodpecker.
