Kia hora te manno
Kia whakapapa paumamu te moana
Kia tere te Karohirohi

May the calm be widespread
May the sea glisten like the greenstone
And may the glimmer of summer dance across your pathways

"Little Red"

"Little Red" a Rufous hummingbird, has decided to stake out the feeder outside my kitchen window as his own.

He is a feisty little guy, showing off his brightly colored gorget (throat feathers) whenever another bird comes near.

"Little Red", was rather nervous that I was so close by, even though we had the window glass between us.

He did stay still long enough so I could snap a few pictures..

I hope to see this handsome little guy often, throughout the summer.

You caught some delightful pics of your new feathered friend. I've had two winter over with us and they won't sit still long enough to be snapped up! :)

Jennifer,

Wow to have such a cute visitor/resident there. The guy really posed for those photos too.

Hi Jennifer~~ It's been too long. I hope all is well with you and that you've been able to make good use of all this fabulous weather.

We've had Annas now for several years. I don't know why because I don't use feeders. [I've got cats.] Sometimes they'll get close enough for photos but I never have my camera. Go figure. They love to perch and chirp although it's more like a cross between squeak and squeal.

Great photos of your Rufous Little Red. I imagine with a ready-made food supply he won't be going anywhere. Pretty soon his entire family will be fighting over the feeder. LOL

Delightful!

I wrote about the mating behaviors of Anna's hummingbirds last weekend.

Those are incredible photos KeeWee. You're so lucky to have him in your garden this time of year. We only have them for about two months at the end of summer. It goes by way too fast.
