May the calm be widespread
May the sea glisten like the greenstone
And may the glimmer of summer dance across your pathways

Perfectly Pretty Pansies

The pansy is such a humble little flower, but oh so pretty.

Jennifer, this was the first year to have them in my garden and I was so surprised that they bloomed so long and non stop. They just stopped a week or so ago and I trimmed them off.I am hoping that they will reseed a little.

Pansies are pretty!
I gather the wild violets (the wild version of the pansy) and make all sorts of yummy treats. I enjoy the violets in my salads. I wonder if pansies are tasty?

Hi Jennifer~~ I've always loved pansies. Their scent takes me back to circa four-years old. My mother who has never been a gardener and never wanted to be, must have had a weak moment. The pansy scent mesmerized me. I'm partial to the viola types and I love how they reseed where ever they please. They kind of take a back seat to summer's bounty but during the lean months, they really shine. Gorgeous photos. I especially like that rosy-pink colored one.

Pansies are one flower that stand up to our inhospitable weather here. After the first flush of flowers get sort of tired (after some weeks) I cut them back and new shoots and flowers come through for another smaller display. The range of colours are always fantastic.
