Yard art at it's best.

When I walk around my gardens I take in the overall view, a splash of color here, great textures and shapes of leaves branches and flowers over there, the height and grace of grass moving in a breeze in the distance, but then the artist in me, sends me on a tour to take a closer look, to get down and really look into and at the plants.

Hosta leaves are a never ending delight to the eye, showing off their colors and shapes. You would swear someone had taken a brush loaded with green and embellished the leaves.

A newly planted succulent, with stunning lime green leaves edged in red, glows brightly, as it decorates an old stump.

An iris in bud, is a thing of beauty indeed. From the shape and form of the buds to the different shades of green and purple.

Mother hen without her chicks, is full and luscious, inviting me to come and look deep into her, to recognize how the edges of her leaves are saw toothed and tipped with this brilliant color.

Total eye candy, need I say more?

Columbine in their intricate beauty, call for closer inspection.I love the way the one little flower is surrounded by buds on their long stems, forming an intricate and interesting arrangement.

Delicious! My columbine is just starting to bud. Great pictures! I agree about the Hosta. A person would not have such chic restraint though, nature really understands that "less is more"!! - Bonnie

I always think hostas look a little like quilted material! Like 3D textile art, with the colours applied.

You are right, KeeWee how amazing things look when we get close to them. Always a source of wonder.

Gorgeous photos of stunning plants!
The hosta is just beautiful, and better left in the garden to admire, than cut to make concrete leaves with :)!!

Hi KeeWee~~ What, pray tell, is the name of that amazing hosta? In all my gardening years I don't believe I've ever seen a variety with as much white as this one.

Love your flowers, even in bud stage, gorgeous. Beauty is there if we just take the time to look.

I'm with Grace - what is the name of that Hosta! I too have never seen the like of that. White, green and blue is almost too hard to believe.

Sorry to say, this is one Hosta I do not know the name of, as it was given to me as an un-named gift. It sure is one of my most beautiful Hostas though.

When I saw your post title, I thought you were going to talk about statuary or something similar! You are so right about the coloring, textures, shapes, etc., of plants being "art" in and of themselves. Nature is so much more fascinating in the art dept then we are! Your garden is looking so good. I love the coloring on the hens & chicks and the hosta. Have a great weekend.

PS Yes, a "kiwi" should have a New Zealand Flax!!! ;-)
