Kia hora te manno
Kia whakapapa paumamu te moana
Kia tere te Karohirohi

May the calm be widespread
May the sea glisten like the greenstone
And may the glimmer of summer dance across your pathways

While the cat is away

the mice do play. Well, in this case not the mice, but our landscaper friend. We had talked to W. a while ago about taking out some old scruffy growth beside the deck to make way for a driveway and a garden area.

As we drove up to the carport in our RV, late yesterday, I immediately noticed how light it was under there and I could see a view of Puget sound through the back of the carport where trees had been, which blocked the lovely view. It was then I knew the work had been started.

Some of the horrible old scruffy growth. You can see a flower pot which had blown off the deck in a wind storm, I could not retrieve it because the growth was so dense Whoohoo! all that nasty old scratchy stuff is now all going away.

A view from down below. Look at all those prickly blackberries which will also be gone from there.

In the foreground is the narrow garden directly behind the carport. A lovely lilac and forsythia are growing on the corner, tulips, sweet William, hollyhocks, daffodils hostas and many other plants share this bed. I am dreaming of all the new plants and bulbs which will be here in the future.

I will be able to reclaim the rest of the garden once all this mess is cleaned up.

Can you imagine the plans swirling in my head? What to grow, when can I get to it, etc. I know with all the travel we are doing this year, and also the fact that I am still working part-time, that this project will take some time to accomplish. I nearly forgot, the deck also has to be replaced.

I can imagine the plants. I think planting and planning are the best parts of gardening. It will be nice to have it all clear.

Kudos to the MOUSE ! There is nothing like fresh, unclaimed dirt to get a gardener's blood pumping. I hope you'll share photos of your progress.

Are you drowning in all this rain? I sure wish I had invested in about six rain barrels.

I can see it already. You are going to have a ball building this new area into garden space. Very fun to have new space. What a view!
