Kia hora te manno
Kia whakapapa paumamu te moana
Kia tere te Karohirohi

May the calm be widespread
May the sea glisten like the greenstone
And may the glimmer of summer dance across your pathways

IT IS ALL ABOUT CONTRAST

Whenever I am wandering my garden I am always looking for the unusual to photograph. There are plenty of lovely flowers begging to be featured on my blog, but everyone has those. There are many pictures of vegetable gardens and baskets of the harvest, also ready to pose, and there are bugs, butterflies and critters of all kinds which have been featured on my blog.

This time during one of my explorations, I almost overlooked this interesting little vignette. At first glance I said to myself, "there is a bird's feather in the garden" and almost walked on by looking for the perfect picture, but this time, something in my sub conscience told me to stop and take a closer look.
I immediately noticed how the feather had landed right side up on the edge of a small stump, surrounded by Sedums and ferns. Next I took in how the softness of the feather was in contrast to the sharp spikes of the Sedum, the rough wood of the stump and the crowding of the ferns behind it. "Ah Ha!" I said to myself, "now here is something of interest worthy to be photographed"

Once in a while I will enter a photo in Gardening Gone Wild's, Picture this Contest. This time the theme is : the BEST FRAME YOU HAVE EVER CREATED. Your favorite. The one that means the most to you, that conveys what skill you had to bring to bear at its creation and now as you ascertain what it expresses. Your BEST EVER!

I have, as many other bloggers do, many photos we think are our very best and it is difficult to choose just one. I have chosen this one because the subject is different from my others, and it made me stand still,to really study, and appreciate the contrasts in front of my eyes.

In a way.., it is the contrasting element that make the look really stand out... Like when land meet the sea and waves amplify that contrasting beauty. Nice subject you touch on.... Cheers, ~bangchik

It is utterly lovely and ever so simple. A humble feather, but what a joy. I perfect photo :) x

I really like your choice. This was a very difficult contest this time because choosing a favorite shot was SO HARD. I love the chancing upon feathers; I have quite a few shots of ones I have come across, and the contrast between the feather and the plants and other hardscape is always wonderful. It is also surprisingly difficult to capture all that successfully, and I feel like you truly did in this shot. Glad I stopped by, and good luck in the contest!
