Kia hora te manno
Kia whakapapa paumamu te moana
Kia tere te Karohirohi

May the calm be widespread
May the sea glisten like the greenstone
And may the glimmer of summer dance across your pathways

Autumn is here

Our days have been so warm that I fear I have a false sense of security. I must get out and pick the tomatoes and beans today, and start on tidying up the garden and prepping it for an early start in Spring.

The Scarlet Runner beans are still blooming and producing plenty of beans for our evening meals. I have left a few of the beans on the vines so I will have some for planting in the Spring.

There are about a dozen late bearing Blueberries still on the plant, but I will be enjoying those as I go about doing the garden chores today.

I haven't been able to eat the 'Sugarsun' cherry tomatoes as fast as they ripen, and that is also with giving bags of them to friends. This is one tomato I will be growing next year. The black Russian I will not bother with, as I found it to be tasteless and kind of mushy.

A Beefsteak which ended up on a sandwich. Oh! how I will miss my tasty tomato sandwiches
during the long winter months.
Our weather here on Whidbey Island is supposed to be nice until I think the weather man said Sunday, when it will be blustery with some showers, so I had better get outside and start on the cleanup.

Hi Jennifer,
I wish I could have had a few more beans from my garden. You are lucky to still be harvesting. Those Sugarspun cherry tomatoes look good. What catalog did you order from? I am always searching for good cherry maters, they are ones that ACTUALLY grow up here in the mountains.
Garden clean-up, that's my chant lately.

Lovely tomatoes. How nice to see them ripening in chorus, and that calls for a basketful harvest! Cheers ~bangchik

We've had the same warm weather here. It feels like summer is just starting instead of just winding down.

Hi Jennifer~~ I know what you mean. I'm still picking blue, rasp and straw berries. And my 'Sunsugar' and 'Sugary' are keeping us well fed. I don't even bother growing full sized tomatoes any more. The cherries taste so much better. I guess it would take some doing to get that tomato sandwich, unless you're Barbie. :]

Oh you still have tomatoes. I only wish. I pulled them out a couple of weeks ago. Yours looks so pretty.

Your tomatoes look wonderful. I usually grow sun-sugar hybrid cherry tomatoes and they are delicious and prolific, too. You should try the black plum, since you were dissatisfied with your black Russian. Very rich flavor and prolific, too. That beefsteak is a beauty; I can almost taste it. Cheers!

Hi Jennifer! Thanks for reminding that these beautiful days won't last forever. I remember how it feels to clean a garden when it's gray, wet and cold. A question about Sugarsun. How is it in comparison with Sun gold? I like Sun gold, but have never tried Sugarsun.

Hi Jennifer, I think autumn's here all over the world (although maybe not here in Florida, where it's unseasonably hot!) Great pictures in this post.

Hi Jennifer,we are enjoying a late Indian summer here after our wettest summer on record. Tidying the garden for winter and Spring planting is not a chore at the moment it is an excuse to spend as many hours as possible in the sunshine. We are still harvesting runner beans too but our tomatoes were not a success at all.Enjoy the fruits of your labours!
