The first day of Spring is not until the 20th of March.

but today I discovered lovely green shoots emerging from the cold, damp soil.

I think these are Snowdrops.

I will have to keep a close eye on the weather and cover the Sedum if frost is in the forecast. I am surprised to see these shoots so early, but we have had a fairly mild winter this year.

    Hi Jennifer~~ Other than that two-week mega-freeze in December. Okay maybe I'm exaggerating a wee bit. It might have been while you were in NZ. I'm absolutely positive that from here on out there will be nary an hour of inclement weather. Rain, is acceptable, of course, but nothing in the way of extremes, thank you very much. :) You've got me curious. I'll have to wander out and pull back the leaves and see if anything is cooking down there.

    It's looking very Springish around here too. I've got all sorts of bulbs popping up and I've seen a couple of Cherry trees around that look close to blooming already.

    Not that far away is it? And I usually see my first dragonfly by then too! We are looking at teens in the morning maybe for the last time this winter.

    We are bragging that we have warmer weather than Florida here in BC. Well as long as that lasts we will brag. So much for the winter Olympics.

    I have been noticing the buds swell in the parks, and I am going snow drop hunting today. I think that I might have a good chance of finding the first ones to bloom in BC.
